ArchiDoc, which is a part of the OEX Group has won four tenders for the digitalization of library collections that were organized by Lublin Municipality. The project anticipates that nearly 40 thousand publications will have been digitalized by the end of 2014.

The digitalization of valuable library collections is one of the stages of creating Lubelska Biblioteka Wirtualna by Lublin Municipality. Under the project, ArchiDoc is responsible for the scanning, OCR and description of digital files in accordance with library standards, and for publishing them in Digital Libraries. By the end of 2014, nearly 2 million book pages, press publications and maps that are in the collections of Wojewódzka Biblioteka Publiczna in Lublin (Provincial Public Library), Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, the Medical University of Lublin and Ośrodek “Brama Grodzka – Teatr NN” will have been scanned. The documents to be digitalized include, among others, old prints, incunabula and magazines from the 18th and 19th centuries.
The project is being carried out in the aforementioned institutions, on site, and in ArchiDoc’s Operational Centre. In order to digitalize the library collections, ArchiDoc, part of the OEX Group, uses specialist scanners which facilitate safe convertion of even the most vulnerable documents into an electronic form.

”ArchiDoc has many years’ experience in executing large digitalization projects. So far, we have co-operated in this respect, inter alia, with the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, the National Digital Archives and the Main Medical Library. We have a team of professionals and an infrastructure that allows us to carry out even the most untypical assignments across Poland” – says Anna Czaicka, ArchiDoc’s business development manager.

In the year 2013, the ArchiDoc company was awarded the prize ”Kryształ Przetargów Publicznych” for the digitalization of the collections of the Polish Patent Office. During the 6-month collaboration the company of the OEX Group converted 600 thousand documents into the digital form. The service also included text recognition using OCR technology, and document indexing. In the project evaluation, the high service quality and complexity, coupled with timely completion were appreciated.

Lubelska Biblioteka Wirtualna is a project implemented under the Regional Operational Programme for Lubelskie Province for the years 2007 – 2013, co-financed from the EU Regional Development Fund. The object of the venture is to create an Internet platform combining the digital resources owned by the libraries and cultural institutions of the Lubelskie Region, as well as to enable fast and common access to these resources. An equally important objective of the project is to secure valuable works, publications and the oldest writings, and the promotion of the region and the project’s participants.
